The Power of Psychoanalytic Therapy and Depth Psychology
As the core modalities of my practice, psychoanalytic therapy and depth psychology offer unique benefits for clients seeking profound and lasting change.
Psychoanalytic therapy is based on the understanding that much of our mental life operates outside our conscious awareness. This approach recognizes that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by unconscious processes shaped by our early experiences, relationships, and conflicts.
As your psychoanalytic therapist, I help you:
Explore patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
Understand how your past experiences influence your present life
Recognize unconscious conflicts that may be causing distress
Develop insight into relationship patterns that repeat across different contexts
Build a stronger sense of self and more authentic ways of relating
Unlike more symptom-focused approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or solution-focused therapy, psychoanalytic therapy addresses the underlying causes of your difficulties rather than just managing their manifestations.
Depth psychology complements this approach by emphasizing the importance of exploring the unconscious aspects of the psyche. For high-achieving professionals who often live primarily in their analytical mind, depth psychology offers a way to reconnect with other dimensions of experience—including emotions, intuition, creativity, and meaning—creating a more balanced and fulfilling life.
heal the depths + find harmony within
step 01
consultation
Schedule your free, 15-minute consultation. Here I’ll ask what prompted you to reach out and what you’re looking for. If I feel we’re a good fit, you’re welcome to ask me questions as well. Once you feel comfortable moving forward, we’ll discuss fees and schedule the intake appointment.
step 02
intake appointment
During your first virtual session, I’ll be interested to hear more about you and what you’re experiencing. This typically includes asking questions about your current situation and history. This will also allow you to experience how I am as a therapist. We’ll discuss if it feels like a good fit and if you’d like to schedule additional sessions.
step 03
the work begins
We’ll begin meeting regularly to journey through your experience and discover what keeps you stuck in the same patterns. I believe true healing and lasting change take time and can be painful. I’ll encourage you to have patience and trust in the messy process.
My Individual Therapy Process
Your journey with me begins with a free, 15-minute consultation where we'll discuss what prompted you to reach out and what you're looking for in therapy. If we both feel it's a good fit, we'll schedule an intake session where I'll learn more about your life experiences and current challenges.
Once you decide to continue therapy, we'll begin meeting twice weekly to explore what keeps you stuck in the same patterns. The frequency of twice-weekly sessions is intentional and creates several benefits:
Greater momentum in your healing process
A container that can hold more intense emotional material
Deeper exploration of unconscious patterns
Less time spent "catching up" and more time for meaningful work
Stronger therapeutic relationship that can support transformative change
Regular therapy sessions provide a consistent supportive environment for exploration, reflection, and growth. Whether you're navigating life transitions, addressing relationship difficulties, or working through anxiety or depression, our therapeutic process provides a structured approach to healing and growth.
Who I Work With
I specialize in individual therapy with professionals and high achievers who are seeking deep and lasting change. My ideal clients are often successful in their professional lives but struggle with self-doubt, relationship challenges, or a sense that something is missing despite their achievements.
Many of my clients are young adults in their 20s and 30s who:
Achieve at work but struggle to feel good about themselves
Experience anxiety, perfectionism, or impostor syndrome
Find themselves people-pleasing or fearing disappointment
Feel lonely despite their efforts to connect
Have difficulty in relationships despite trying hard to make them work
Struggle with their relationship with their family but feel guilty about acknowledging problems
Have high standards for themselves and often feel they're falling short
If these experiences resonate with you, you're not alone, and there is a path forward. Through our work together in individual therapy, you can develop a stronger sense of self, more fulfilling relationships, and greater peace with who you are beneath the achievements and accolades.
Virtual Therapy Sessions
I offer online therapy through a virtual-only practice, with services held over a HIPAA-compliant platform. Studies have shown that virtual therapy is just as effective as traditional therapy conducted in person.
For those living in the Arlington VA area, DC metro area, or Seattle region, online therapy provides the convenience of eliminating commute time while still receiving high-quality mental health care. I require video appointments rather than text-based telehealth services, which helps ensure the effectiveness of our virtual work.

I may be a bit biased, but I wholeheartedly believe that therapy is worth it—if you're willing to open yourself up to the process. For true, deep healing to occur, you need to commit to the vulnerability, ups and downs, and hard work that therapy requires.
Whether you're seeking therapy for relationship issues, low self-esteem, mental health issues like anxiety, or simply because you want to feel more fulfilled in your life, therapy can help. By getting curious about your internal experiences and learning more about what drives you, you can find meaningful change and emotional healing. While I've witnessed this firsthand with my clients and through my own personal experience, you don't have to take my word for it. Check out this article from the American Psychological Association about the effectiveness of in-depth therapy.

Pretty much! Therapy can be helpful for a wide range of different issues. While my private practice focuses on helping individuals with anxiety, perfectionism, codependency, and low self-esteem, other therapists can help people in different capacities.
Some other reasons why people seek therapy include:
Learning life skills
Treatment of mental health issues like eating disorders, mood disorders, or personality disorders
Recovering from substance abuse
Navigating relationship issues or family conflict
Coping with stress or life transitions
Healing from trauma
Personal growth and development
Career-related issues
People work with therapists in Arlington, VA for all sorts of different reasons. While many people have the misconception that you need a formal mental health diagnosis to work with a therapist, that's not always the case. You also don't need to wait until your problems are "bad enough" to start counseling.

Choosing the best Arlington, VA therapist for your needs is a highly personal decision. Only you know what's best for you. At the same time, I recognize that difficult life experiences can make it hard to listen to your inner voice and trust your own judgment. Here are some tips for finding the right therapist for you.
Consider the type of therapist you want. In your search, you'll see therapists with different credentials. Depending on what you're looking for, you may choose to work with a licensed professional counselor, licensed clinical social worker, licensed marriage and family therapist, or licensed psychologist (like me!). Each has a different type of degree, but all have thousands of hours of training and supervised practice.
Decide which kind of therapy you're looking for. Each therapist takes a different approach, depending on their personal and professional values, background, and training. I take an in-depth, psychoanalytic approach to therapy. However, other therapists might use techniques like solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), or a holistic approach.
Pay attention to logistics. It's also important to consider logistics when finding a therapist. Make sure to find a licensed therapist whose credentials allow them to practice in your state. You'll also want to consider online therapy vs. in-person therapy, scheduling availability, whether you want to use your insurance benefits and more.
Schedule a free consultation. Once you've narrowed down your options, I recommend scheduling a consultation with each potential therapist. Most therapists offer free consultations so you can ask questions and get a feel for whether you're the right fit for each other. From here, you can decide how you want to move forward.

I am a virtual-only practice, which means that our services are held over a HIPAA-compliant virtual platform. Studies have shown that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. However, I do think personal preference can play a part in determining if it is the right fit for you.
As someone who used to live in the DMV, I know firsthand how stressful the commute can be. If you have struggled to find a therapist close to your office or near your home, virtual therapy could be a great option for you to be able to commit to therapy without worrying about the time and energy it could take to commit to in-person work.
I will say that my services differ from virtual services like BetterHelp or Talkspace. I do not offer any text-based therapy and I do require a weekly video appointment, which helps the effectiveness of our virtual work.
